We received an email a few days ago from bballgirl37 asking what to do if she has severe food allergies that could kill her if she comes into contact with someone who just ate them. So how can she ever kiss a guy unless he stops eating foods that can kill her? Here’s her question, and our answer:

bballgirl37: So, here’s the thing, I have a food allergy and none of my friends do, like I’m serious…none. They don’t understand what the big deal is but it is big. That’s not the main problem. See, I’ve been meeting a lot of new people lately. Each one, I had to tell them about my allergy. I’ve never had a boyfriend. I realized that I could never kiss a guy unless he gave up foods that could hurt me or had the same allergy. The chances of this are really slim and I don’t wanna make anyone do more than they have to for me. One guy I told pretty much made fun of it and another guy just kept asking questions. I don’t wanna havta go through this alll the time cause I feel like a freak. Nobody cares or understands. I still wanna have a boyfriend but I dont think I can go through this all the time. :\

Solution?

You’re going about this all wrong girl! Here’s what you do (and why). When you want a boyfriend, you don’t give out too much information at first – that’s going to scare him away. You are scaring away boys right now because they don’t know you well enough yet to deal with any medical information. You don’t want or need them to think of you as “the girl with the medical problem”. Once they get to know you better, your allergies will not label who you are as a person, but they will just be a small part of who you are.

Stop announcing your allergies to boys you want to date right now. Just flirt and be fun around the boy you like. Keep your distance. Don’t mention the allergy yet (unless he’s about to eat something you’re allergic to!). After you’ve gone on a few dates, or talked online, text, phone – or any electronic method he will get to see your really fun and flirty side.

Once it’s obvious that he starts liking you, having fun with you, asking you out again, then you should playfully flirt with him, give him a small kiss on the cheek and say “I wish I could give you a real kiss… but..”  when he presses you for more information, then tell him you have a severe allergy to certain foods and a kiss from someone who ate that stuff could be deadly for you. Then joke and say “literally the kiss of death” and start laughing a little. He will stop eating those foods just so he can kiss you, if he really likes you. And by acting playful and flirty all the time instead of scaring boys away with too much information at first, he will like you

So you’ve been questioning if your friend is a true friend or not, or perhaps you’re just trying to figure out which of your friends are really your friends. Here are a few things that will tell you instantly what makes a good friend.

1  You can trust them.

It doesn’t matter what the situation is, you know they will never hurt you and their intentions towards you are always 100% good. They are always honest with you. They will never gossip about you or say bad things about you behind your back.

2  They are loyal.

Your friend will never ditch you for the more “popular” crowd, and will never ditch you or avoid you so she can spend more time with a guy. Obviously, she can still go out with other people, but she should never be mean to you or make others seem much more important than you.

3  They are good listeners.

It’s not always going to be about them crying to you about their problems, or telling you about their interesting stories. They will actually have an interest in your life and want to hear about it.

4  They are fun.

You enjoy being with this friend. They are always a blast to be with, and you never have a boring or bad experience. Together, you guys make just about any situation fun. You make each other laugh and always feel comfortable around them.

5  They are caring.

You feel that they care about you. When your sick, they worry about you or do something sweet. They put effort into your birthday. They call you just to see how you’re doing.

These are all qualities that describe a good or best friend. Good friends are hard to come by, so cherish the ones you have.

The number of emails I get everyday from guys and girls asking for advice on how to be “more than just friends” is too many to count. I want to give the same reply to everyone… “of course it’s possible!”.

Think about it, you are friends. This means he is probably the one you share all your secrets with, or cry on his shoulder when your upset. Maybe it’s the other way around too! He’s the one who comes to you with all his problems and asks for your opinion on everything. The best relationships are based on friendship first! Why? It’s simple. You already have a large amount of intimacy between the two of you. You are more likely to be honest with each other, have fun together, trust each other and respect each other. That’s way more than just randomly choosing some “cute guy” you barely know to start dating.

All that’s missing between a close friendship between a guy and a girl is the passion. Don’t bluntly ask out your friend. Things will get weird. Trust me. Just flirt a little at first, if things get weird – pretend it was a joke. If things go well, flirt more. If your friend flirts back, then there’s the flame starting to let up. Keep it going and POW there’s the beginning of something great.

The first piece of advice on a boyfriend break up is to pull yourself together. Stop acting like an overly emotional mess when you’re around your ex. All those tears and those over the top proclamations of undying devotion aren’t going to impress him, ever. In fact, if you act like that he’s going to label you pathetic and desperate. You have to present yourself as someone who can handle incredibly emotional situations. If you do, he’ll see you as mature. You need that to happen before he’ll even consider getting back together with you.

Another important piece of break up advice for women is to let your guy go. Instead of trying to hold onto him with everything you have, walk away. If you can drop all contact with him for several weeks you’ll actually completely change the dynamic of the relationship. No longer will he be the one in charge of whether or not you two get back together. He’ll come to realize, during your absence, that his life is empty without you. He’ll also sense that you may not wait for him to take you back forever. If you can keep your distance, he’ll want you more. This really works and all you need to do is stay silent and scarce for a few weeks and you’ll see it in action for yourself.

Maintain your dignity always when you are trying to win back his love. Remember that you’re unique and special and sooner or later he’s going to realize what he’s lost. Take pride in yourself and how you handle this situation. Not only will he see how strong you are emotionally, but more importantly, you’ll feel it.

A few years later, out of nowhere and when least expected, I found my soul mate. There was this instant attraction I never thought possible. I didn’t know why I was attracted to him, I just was. And my love for him grew stronger every day. I froze when he looked at me or talked to me, but when we got talking I felt totally at peace. We did go out a few times, I knew he liked me, but I took that stupid book too seriously. I was judging everything he did. When he only asked me out once every 2 or 3 weeks I got upset and thought, he doesn’t like me as much as I like him. When he didn’t show up to an event that I could’ve possibly been at I got upset inside. Eventually, the texting stopped, the dates stopped, and I got very offended.He obviously wasn’t into me, and here I was thinking he was my soul mate.

Well, what I didn’t realize was that there was a reason he wasn’t that into me. I guess I didn’t make it seem like I was into him. There was practically no flirting on either part, but he was clearly shy so I could’ve done something. I could’ve been more flirty. Made him think I was more interested in him than I showed. But, what’s done is done. I’d give anything for a second chance, but there won’t be one.

My advice: next time you start dating someone, evaluate yourself more than him. Make sure you’re showing him that you’re interested in him. Don’t come on too strong or act weird. Don’t be whiny, don’t complain a lot. Act happy and flirty and fun. Don’t assume he’s not that into you while you’re dating, wait til the dating is over and finished with. Because if you go on dates being upset that you like him more than he likes you, it won’t last. He’ll catch onto your “vibe” and stop asking you out altogether.

Your relationship is off an on. The guy you are dating generally doesn’t know what to do, he hasn’t dated anyone in at least a few years that you’re aware of, he seems to need to be told what to do, he doesn’t always understand quite what you mean when you say something, he may take things too literally or he might seem to be on some kind of a schedule or follow a set of rules he placed for himself. Sometimes he is the sweetest guy in the world and acts like you’re everything to him, but the next minute he’s stand-offish, cold, and you can’t figure out if you’re not good enough for him or if you did something to turn him away! It drives you nuts thinking about it as you wait days or even weeks for him to call you. You don’t want to call him because after reading several self-help books such as, “He’s not that into you”, you know you have to give him space and let him be the one to contact you.

If you are actually confused after racking your brain, trying desperately to figure things out and you still can’t – it’s perfectly OK to just be direct with him. Don’t wait too long before you ask him if you did anything to offend him. If he says yes, you guys can work through the problem – or you can say goodbye to each other. Get it over with nice and quick before putting in too much time with him.

If he says no, you didn’t offend him in any way or do anything and he seems confused by why you would think that, explain to him that he sometimes acts like you’re not good enough for him. He rarely makes the first move, he needs to be told what to do, you’re just confused about how he feels about you. Does he want friendship or dating?

Once he answers, he might apologize. He might use an excuse like he hasn’t dated in a while, or he might come out and tell you that he has trouble processing what other people think or how to act in social settings. He might tell you he has Asperger’s. He might not. If he doesn’t, don’t assume he does. He may just be love-shy. Love shy generally means that men who don’t date, are virgins, and never had a girlfriend before can be extremely awkward around girls.

You may be thinking, “does my BF have Asperger’s?” Either way, weather a guy has Asperger’s or is love shy, just keep in mind that he is completely normal in every aspect – except the fact that you may need to be more direct with him. Tell him what you’re thinking. Tell him the things you admire about him and what you’d like him to do. Tell him what makes you happy.

By just being understanding of him and patient, you can have a happy and successful relationship.
