Do

The best rule for dressing up and looking fabulous without going over the top is to look like yourself…just with more confidence! Choose two or three tips from the list below to enhance your glam factor for the big night.

  • Start whitening your teeth a few weeks before the big night. Eating strawberries is said to naturally whiten teeth. Or use whitestrips, whitening toothpaste, or whitening mouthwash. It can take time to whiten teeth, so doing this way before the big night will ensure your teeth are pearly white by the time they need to be… or even well before that time!
  • Use sparkling shimmer dust on your cheeks and shoulders (if you are going strapless)
  • Add glitter to your hairstyle by spraying your hair with hairspray and sprinkling on some glitter. This makes it stick better. Or clip some rhinestone clips throughout your hairstyle.
  • Use a product such as Stila lip stain (in Cherry Crush) or another type of lip stain, so that when your lip gloss wears off, you’ll still have pretty pink lips, as if you were just eating a popsicle.
  • Use charcoal, navy, or brown eyeliner to make your eyes stand out be careful not to overdo it
  • French Manicures go with anything
  • Add a few individual false eyelashes
  • Wear your hair up or back with fun clips or barrettes (especially if you normally wear it down)
  • Shop for a dress with a scattering of sequins to catch the light
  • Gloss your lips to a high shine for a sexy, wet look
  • Try wearing a strapless or bandeau style dress if you normally dress conservatively make sure you still feel comfortable
  • Wear shoes in a metallic color for a touch of glitzy glamour
  • Incorporate a long feather boa or faux fur wrap into your ensemble for some diva style
  • Try a sandal or shoe with a heel (especially if you normally wear flats) a little bit of heel will also make your legs look longer and leaner
  • Add a tiara to your hair style it may be the only chance you have to wear one
  • Be yourself and have a great time nothing will accessorize your dress better than a great smile

Don’t

You can’t prepare for every possibility of disaster on your prom night, but you can certainly be sure that you look great for any adventure that comes your way. To guarantee a comfortable, beautiful look, follow the list below of things to avoid on your prom day:

  • Getting a new haircut or dying your hair a totally new color. Do not go from blonde to brunette, or vice versa.
  • Do not wear a corset top. You want to be able to breathe and enjoy yourself on the big night!
  • Getting a too complicated, heavily hair-sprayed style. Your hair may look nice, but you will regret it when you want to be comfortable later in the evening.
  • Selecting a dress that is too tight. You should be able to move comfortably in your dress without worrying about ripping seams or coming out of it.
  • Choosing a dress style you are not comfortable in. It’s far more important to have fun at prom than to show curves and skin.
  • Using a new hair stylist for the first time.
  • Going to a tanning salon for the first time, or using a sunless tanner the night before. Tanned skin looks better in photos but sunburned skin is painful and unattractive. You also do NOT want to look orange!
