The Coolest Spring / Summer Trends of 2009
With spring coming fast, you'll want to know what celebs are wearing and what's hot for the season. Here is a quick list of the coolest summer trends of 2009.
- One-Shouldered Tops, Dresses & Bikinis. This includes everything from single-shouldered dresses to tops to bikini tops. Yes, finally the asymmetric shoulder-lines have made a come-back in 2009. I remember wearing these in eleventh grade way back in 1999 / 2000 and they were really hot then. Showing off one-shoulder is subtly sexy as it shows just enough skin, but not too much. The only problem I have with the one shoulder thing is you have to alter you bra to go with this - either buy getting the clear strap or the strapless. Also very popular this season, and tying in with the one-shoulder trend is the Grecian Style dresses. If you're familiar with Grecian clothing, you know that most just wrap over one shoulder and leave the other shoulder exposed.Roman-esque and Grecian inspired clothing, espeically Grecian dresses and tops are very hot right now.
- Butterflies! Yes, we can wear butterfly tops again! Glittery butterflies are not in this season. This spring is more about elegance and sophistication. A beautiful purple and blue butterfly motif would be really hot this spring.
- Sheer / See-Through - Soft & Feminine. The weather is getting warmer, so wearing a top with sheer sleeves or mid-section is in this season. You need to keep it soft and feminine though, trashy and too-revealing is not in.
- The Fringe. Fringed skirts and dresses are so hot this season. Flowing fringes was really popular on the 2009 spring and summer runways.
- Fairytale Romance. This is something that obviously can't be worn everyday or on a casual basis. The fairy tale / romance trend made dominant appearances on 2009 spring / summer runways and will likely been seen at red carpet events and celebrity weddings. Could this look have been inspired by Taylor Swift's dress in her video for the song Love Story? Maybe not, but that was a very beautiful dress!
- Ripped / Torn Jeans. How do you go from Fairytale Romance to Ripped and Torn jeans? We'll never know, but the ripped / torn jeans are back. We love the ones from Abercrombie & Fitch. The 2009 take on ripped jeans is that the more skin that is exposed on your legs, the sexier.
- Boyfriend Jeans. I don't agree with this one. Katie Holmes couldn't even pull it off. But another trend involving jeans is to wear your boyfriends' jeans (or men's jeans in general) and roll them up at the ankle. A lot of celebrities have been wearing this trend - Jennifer Anniston, Katie Holmes, Seinna Miller, Lindsay Lohan, and Victoria Beckham. If you shall choose to follow this trend, be sure to go for a straight-leg because flared and bootcut jeans do not work for this particular look. The ankles need to be folded, so keep that in mind. Most celebs that follow this use a brown belt to hold their pants up and pair it with brown or white shoes.
